There is no account here and nothing you fill in. Your revision progress is kept in your own browser and is not sent to us. Two things do leave your device: a count that this page was opened, which carries nothing about you, and a report that something on a page is wrong, which goes only when you press send.
Who is responsible
This site is run by Ink Learning Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under number 17382113, whose registered office is at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ. It is the controller for any personal data described here. For anything about this notice, including a request to exercise any of your rights, write to support@inkphysics.co.uk.
What is kept on your device
The revision tools remember what you have done, and they do it in your browser's own local storage rather than on our side. That covers your checklist ratings, the schedule the flashcards use, which questions you have answered and how they went, which lesson you were last reading and how far into it you were, and a couple of preferences such as whether a hint has been dismissed. Every one of those is written under a name beginning inkbiology_, and a check on every build refuses to publish a script that writes anything else. Three libraries share this address, and one stray name would overwrite somebody's physics progress.
None of it is sent to us and none of it is readable by us. It is not a cookie: nothing is attached to requests, so it never reaches a server at all. Clearing your browser data for this site erases it, and there is no copy anywhere to restore it from, which is why the checklist and the flashcards both offer a copy-and-paste way to move your progress to another device yourself.
What the pages load
The stylesheet, the typefaces, the scripts behind the checklist, the cards and the question player, and the JSON those players read all come from this address. There is no advertising, no tracking pixel, no embedded video and no font or image from anybody else's server, and the diagrams are drawn into the page itself rather than loaded.
Page counts. One thing does come from another server. The site is served by Cloudflare Pages with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which records page views and loading-speed measurements so we can see which pages are used and which are slow. It sets no cookie, uses no device fingerprint and does not follow you between websites: it is a count of pages, not a profile of a person. It is on across the whole address, so it covers this library as well as physics and maths. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in knowing which pages are worth writing more of, and the balance is straightforward because the counting does not need to know who you are.
Reporting a mistake
Every page carries a button for telling us something on it is wrong. It is the only thing here that sends anything you wrote, and it sends only when you press send. What goes is the address of the page, which part of it you flagged, the category you chose, the sentence you flagged if there is one, anything you typed in the box, and which build you were reading. No name and no identifier for you or your device goes with it, and nothing links one report to another.
An optional email address is the one exception, and it exists because a reporter asked for it: somebody who has found a real error often wants to know what came of it. The field is blank unless you fill it in, it is stored on the report itself, and it is used to reply to you about that report and for nothing else. It is never added to a mailing list, never linked to an account, and never used to identify you across reports. Leave it empty and the report stays anonymous exactly as before. The lawful basis for holding it is your consent, given by typing it, and asking us to erase it is a request we can act on because the address is the one thing on a report that can find it again.
It goes to account.inkphysics.co.uk, which is our own service on Cloudflare, and it is stored so that somebody can read it and fix the page. To stop that form being used by machines it is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which is loaded from challenges.cloudflare.com at the moment the dialog opens and not before. Turnstile is a processor for us under Cloudflare's terms; it is designed not to profile visitors and sets no advertising cookie. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in being told when the teaching is wrong and in not having that channel flooded.
Reports are kept while the mistake is open and for a period afterwards so that a fix can be checked against what was reported; they are deleted once they are no longer useful for that. Because a report carries nothing that identifies you, we cannot find yours again to delete it on request. The way to keep something out of a report is not to type it into the box.
That is a statement about this library and not about the whole site. InkPhysics and InkMaths share this address and do more: they offer an optional account that syncs progress between devices. There is no account on this library and no way to sign in to it. Each says so in its own privacy notice.
What the host sees
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages, which keeps short-lived logs of requests, including IP addresses, in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. An IP address can in some circumstances identify a person, so we treat those logs as personal data even though we never look anyone up in them. They are held by Cloudflare under its own retention policy and are not copied to us. Cloudflare is a global provider, so this may take place outside the United Kingdom under the transfer safeguards in its own terms.
The lawful basis is our legitimate interests in keeping the site available and not being abused. That is a straightforward balance here, because the purpose does not need to know who you are and nothing is used to profile or target anyone.
Who else sees it
Cloudflare, as our hosting provider and as the operator of the Turnstile check on the report form, processing on our behalf under its own terms. Nobody else. We sell nothing to anyone and share nothing for advertising.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability over personal data we hold about you. In practice we hold almost none: your revision progress is on your device and not ours, and a mistake report carries nothing that identifies you unless you chose to leave an email address on it, so most of these have little to act on. The address above reaches a person and a request will be answered. If you think we have handled your data badly you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
When this changes
This notice describes the site as it is built today. Any feature that needs to know something about you, anything you can sign in to, anything that remembers your progress on our side rather than yours, would change what is written above, and this page is updated before such a feature goes live rather than after.
