Privacy
One notice for the whole address, covering the physics, maths and biology libraries. The three are not identical and this page says which is which rather than giving one answer that would be wrong about one of them. The short version: your revision stays in your own browser, and only physics and maths offer an account that can carry it elsewhere.
Who is responsible
Ink Learning Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under number 17382113, whose registered office is at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, is the controller for the personal data described here. It publishes all three libraries and the Android apps. For anything about this notice, including a request to exercise any of the rights below, write to support@inkphysics.co.uk.
Each library also publishes a notice of its own, in more detail and in its own terms: physics, maths and biology. Where one of those and this page ever disagree, the library's own notice is the one that describes what that library does.
What stays in your browser
All three libraries remember what you have done, and all three do it in your own browser's local storage rather than on our side: checklist ratings, the boxes flashcards sit in, which questions you have answered and how they went, and where you had got to. None of it is attached to requests, so none of it reaches a server at all, and none of it is personal data we hold. Clearing your browser data for this site erases it and there is no copy to restore it from, which is why the tools offer a copy-and-paste way to move progress to another device yourself.
The three keep their storage apart. Each library writes under its own key prefix, so nothing you have read or rated in one is visible to another, and a reader who uses two of them has two separate sets of progress rather than one that they overwrite by accident.
The optional account: physics and maths only
Physics and maths each offer an account you can sign in to with Google, and both work exactly the same without one. Its only purpose is to carry your revision between devices: your reading, checklist ratings, flashcard boxes and question scores, together with the settings you choose, which are your exam year, exam board and subjects. Signing in tells us your email address and a stable identifier from Google, under Google's own privacy policy; we never see a password and ask for nothing else. What is held is kept only while the account exists, and deleting the account, which is one button on the account page, erases it immediately.
Biology has no account. There is no sign-in on that library and no way to sync anything off the device, so nothing in the paragraph above applies to it.
What we collect across the whole address
Page counts. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and served with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which records page views and loading-speed measurements so we can see which pages are used and which are slow. It is on for all three libraries. It sets no cookie, uses no device fingerprint and does not follow you between websites: it is a count of pages, not a profile of a person.
Server logs. Cloudflare keeps short-lived logs of requests, including IP addresses, as part of delivering the site and protecting it from abuse. An IP address can in some circumstances identify a person, so we treat these as personal data even though we never look anyone up in them.
Unless you sign in to the physics or maths account, we ask for no name, no email address, no age and no payment details anywhere on this address.
Reporting a mistake
Every library carries a control for telling us something on a page is wrong, and it is the only thing on this address that sends anything you wrote. It goes only when you press send, and it carries the category you picked, the note if you typed one, which element you flagged, the page it is on, a short excerpt of the flagged text and the build version. It carries no name, no email address and no link to your account even if you are signed in. A report carries nothing that ties it to a person, which also means we cannot find yours again to delete it on request unless you left an email address: the way to keep something out of a report is not to type it into the box. The email field is optional, is used only to reply to you about that report, and is the one thing that makes a report findable again.
So the form cannot be flooded by machines, a report runs a Cloudflare Turnstile check before it sends, under Cloudflare's own privacy policy, and the sending connection's IP address is used transiently to limit how many reports one address can send in a day. That address is never stored by us: the rate limit keeps only a salted, hashed counter that cannot be turned back into an address.
The apps
There is an Android app for physics and one for maths, and there is no biology app. Each keeps everything on the phone unless you sign in and enable sync, and each asks for two permissions used for one thing apiece: notifications, to show the daily reminder if you switch it on, and alarms, to show it at the time you chose. If a store distributes an app, that store keeps its own record of the installation under its own policy rather than this one.
Why, and on what legal basis
The page counts and the server logs are processed under our legitimate interests: knowing whether the material reaches students, and keeping the site fast, available and not being abused. That balance is straightforward because neither purpose needs to know who you are and neither is used to profile or target anyone. If you would rather not be counted, any browser setting or extension that blocks analytics scripts stops it, and everything here works the same without it. An account is processed to provide the sync you asked for by creating it.
Who else sees it
Cloudflare, as our hosting and analytics provider and as the operator of the check on the report form, processing on our behalf under its own terms and describing what it collects in its Web Analytics documentation. Google, only if you choose to sign in to the physics or maths account. Nobody else. We sell nothing to anyone and share nothing for advertising. Cloudflare is a global provider, so this processing may take place outside the United Kingdom, under the transfer safeguards set out in its own terms.
How long it is kept
Unless you sign in, nothing about your revision is kept by us at all, so there is no retention period to state for it: it never leaves your device. What an account holds is kept while that account exists and erased when you delete it. The page counts are totals rather than records of a person and are kept while they are useful. The server logs are short-lived, held by Cloudflare under its own retention policy and not copied to us.
Cookies
None, on any of the three. The analytics sets no cookie, and what the libraries remember about your revision they keep in local storage on your own device rather than in anything sent back to a server.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection over personal data held about you, and the right to object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests. Without an account there is very little here to exercise them against: no contact details, no user records, and everything about your revision on your own device. With a physics or maths account, access and erasure are self-service on the account page. Write to support@inkphysics.co.uk and we will answer within one month.
If you are not satisfied with how this is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or by telephone on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you told us first, but you do not have to.
Children
These are revision libraries for A-level students, so most readers are sixteen to eighteen, and younger readers are welcome. Nothing here requires an account or asks for a name or an age, and the optional account on physics and maths is as optional for a younger reader as for anyone else.
Changes to this notice
If what any library collects changes, this page and that library's own notice are updated before the change ships, and both carry the date. Anything new involving personal data would stay optional: the libraries are readable without any of it.
