An account is optional. It syncs reading progress, checklist ratings, flashcard scheduling and question scores across devices.
Sign in with a Google account and this device’s progress can follow you to another one; revision done anywhere is merged, never overwritten. What an account stores, and how to delete it, is set out on the privacy page.

Your record
Download a copy of the account data stored on our server, including your email address, progress records and device sign-in times. The export does not contain your password or authentication token. Treat the file as personal data.
If you have used the daily session, it also holds your enrolment, every session it planned, every answer you gave it, and the review state worked out from those answers.
Leaving
Signing out leaves this device’s progress alone; signing out everywhere signs out every device holding this account the next time it talks to the server. Deleting the account erases the account and everything synced with it, immediately; each device keeps whatever it already holds.
