Materials equations

The 10 equations the materials notes display, each with a link to the lesson that states it. Of the 10, the data booklet prints 6 and 4 carry no badge either way.

Year 12 · 3 lessons with equations.

The marks refer to the AQA 7408 data booklet. An equation it prints is marked as such, and one it leaves out is marked to learn. An equation with no mark has not been checked against that booklet, and some of these belong to the Edexcel, OCR or CIE specification rather than AQA’s, so check them against your own board’s data or formula booklet.

Density and Hooke's law

ρ=mV\rho = \frac{m}{V}IN THE AQA DATA BOOKLET
F=kΔLF = k\Delta LIN THE AQA DATA BOOKLET
energy stored=12FΔL\text{energy stored} = \tfrac{1}{2}F\Delta LIN THE AQA DATA BOOKLET

Stress, strain and the Young modulus

tensile stress=FA\text{tensile stress} = \frac{F}{A}IN THE AQA DATA BOOKLET
tensile strain=ΔLL\text{tensile strain} = \frac{\Delta L}{L}IN THE AQA DATA BOOKLET
E=tensile stresstensile strainE = \frac{\text{tensile stress}}{\text{tensile strain}}IN THE AQA DATA BOOKLET

Fluids: pressure, upthrust and viscosity

Not on the AQA specification: Edexcel, OCR A and CIE only.

p=FAp = \frac{F}{A}
Δp=ρAgΔhA=ρgΔh\Delta p = \frac{\rho A g \Delta h}{A} = \rho g \Delta h
p=ρghp = \rho g h
F=6πηrvF = 6\pi\eta r v

Every equation in the library is indexed by unit on the equation index, and the materials notes are where these equations are derived and used.
