Cambridge International A-level Chemistry 9701 Paper 3: Advanced Practical Skills
9701/3 · 2 hours · 40 marks · 11.5% of the A level.
What it examines
Practical work and structured questions on the experimental skills in the syllabus's Practical assessment section.
Paper 3 is a timetabled practical exam. You carry out the experiments, record your results and analyse them under exam conditions, and it is one of the three AS Level papers.
Where the library covers it
The skills this paper tests are taught in Measurement, uncertainty and significant figures in chemistry, Apparatus, techniques and safety: the twelve required practicals in outline, Preparing, purifying and testing an organic solid and liquid and Group 2 compounds: solubility, uses and the sulfate test. The methods, from titration to thin-layer chromatography, are on the practicals page, and the Cambridge route map lists the syllabus headings for Papers 3 and 5.
