Answer and mark each question
1,647 questions worth 5,508 marks: original questions written for this library; none is taken from a past paper. Write your answer on paper before opening the mark scheme.
Award one mark for each listed point and record the score.
How questions are rescheduled
Questions come back by topic. The marks you award set the gap before the topic comes back. Full marks widen it, half marks keep it, and fewer bring it back sooner.
No marks cuts the gap to about a fifth. The longest gap is about six months. Answers from one topic on the same day count as the lowest of them. A question you missed is not set again while its topic has others you have not tried.
Quick checks
A quick check brings back a question you got right before. Do not write it all out: plan how you would answer it, the method and the key steps, then open the mark scheme and say whether your plan would have got the marks.
Got it, Partly and Missed it count as full, half and no marks. A quick check takes about a quarter of the time of a full answer.
Build a practice set
The first button starts up to 15 questions, or 10 from one unit or topic: questions you have not answered, one topic at a time with your weakest topics first, then one for each topic that is due. Filter by unit, topic, length or response type.
Timed sets contain 25, 50 or 85 marks and keep the mark schemes closed until the timer stops. Every question you mark counts towards its schedule, here or on Today.
Exam-board filter
With an exam board chosen, practice leaves out the questions your specification does not set: whole topics another board teaches, and single questions on detail only some boards ask for.
Choose All boards to include them. Your board is saved for Today and the card and question sessions too; All boards on this page changes this page only.
All 1,647 questions in the library, one at a time, with the mark scheme a tap away. Write your answer first, then mark yourself against what the scheme actually asks for; how it went sets when its topic comes back, with a question you have not tried or a quick check.
Once you choose your exam board, here or on Today, practice keeps to the questions your specification sets. All boards includes questions written for the other specifications.
Timed sets
A timed set selects text-based questions from your chosen topics and keeps the mark schemes hidden until you finish. It practises recall, written explanation and calculation. It does not include the full range of data analysis, spectra, apparatus diagrams or extended tasks found in an exam paper, so use your board’s past papers for complete paper practice.
The timer uses 1.4 minutes per mark as a general pacing aid. It is not calibrated to every exam board and does not reproduce a full paper. Use your awarding organisation’s published paper duration when practising under examination conditions.
Every topic with questions
By specification: AQA A-level Chemistry · OCR A-level Chemistry A · Edexcel A-level Chemistry · Cambridge A-level Chemistry, each in its own order.
A topic with 4 or more questions links to its own page, where they are all set out with their schemes; a topic with fewer links to the questions at the foot of its lesson.
